In the 21st century, the Internet is becoming the focal point for many different activities, including education. At this point in time, it is even possible to obtain a nursing degree through Internet.

Obtaining a nursing degree through Internet is very convenient. You literally can pursue your nursing degree through Internet at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home.

A nursing degree through Internet is very valuable at this point in time. There is a significant shortage of nurses in the world today. Therefore, qualified nurses are in high demand. By obtaining a nursing degree through Internet, you have a strong chance of gaining precisely the type of position that most interests you.

On many levels, nursing degree through Internet is perfect for those people who desire to become nurses but who simple did not have the time to commit to attending classes in a more traditional setting in the brick and mortar world. For many, many people, the ability to obtain a nursing degree through Internet is a dream come true.

In many instances, these nursing programs are affiliated with outstanding and well recognized nursing schools. In other words, when you complete a nursing degree through Internet program, you will be awarded the exact same diploma that you would receive had you graduated from a school in the brick and mortar world. Potential employers — some who still harbor a bias against online education — will have no idea that you obtained your nursing degree through an online course of study … unless you elect to let people know.

With many schools, you will need to select the area of nursing in which you want to focus at the outset. You also need to keep in mind that you can get different types of degrees including an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree and even a master’s degree in certain disciplines.

Thanks to the ever growing number of nursing that are now available, you can be well on your way to obtaining a nursing degree in very little time. You will be well on your way to taking part in one of the most satisfying and respected professions today … indeed, one of the most highly regarded of professions in all of history.

The University of Phoenix Online started as a traditional university in 1976 and was one of the first to go online in 1989. It is currently the leading online university, with tens of thousands of students from countries around the world. This has made this school one of the most popular of its kind anywhere in the world. Their flexible schedule and commitment to excellence shines through as they churn out more graduates than any other school in their class every year.

One hundred percent online. Lectures and assignments can be downloaded into your home computer through the use of special Internet-access software. There are no live lectures to facilitate comprehensive access for everybody. A forum grants the students the chance to interact with each other and ask questions. A full line of research services and online libraries are available to the student. Contact between instructor/advisor and student are handled through email.

After a one-time application fee of $110, the University of Phoenix works as any other institution, charging students by the credit hour. Currently, prices are $460/$570/$645 for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral credit hours, respectively.

There are other incidental charges, such as late-payment and graduation-audit fees, and you should ask for a detailed breakdown before enrolling.

Low-cost financing and financial aid is available and you can consult an admissions counselor about eligibility. Payments are broken down as per course rather than per semester, which makes them more affordable and easier to budget for.

According to an article published in The Chronicle of Higher Education, the average Phoenix student is 34 years old and female. The average tuition is just under $30,750 for an undergraduate degree. Sixty six percent of enrolled students earn the degree they signed up for. Fifty percent of students receive some kind of grant or financial aid.

A degree can be completed in as little as two years, but students can take up to five. If credits are transferred into the program at the time of enrolling, time can be considerably reduced. Other way of earning credits is through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

All instructors hold a minimum of a masters degree and are successful professionals in their fields. The faculty includes hundreds of CEOs, business owners, executives, and experts in all related disciplines.

Independent study requires discipline and creativity, plus the ability to communicate efficiently. Beyond that, high-quality online universities do not differ much from traditional ones and offer the benefit of flexibility, fundamental to todays busy professionals.

There is one matter that requires some thought. You cannot complete your degree through University of Phoenix online. All of the classroom and book work will be complete, but in order to earn the degree you will need to transfer to a traditional university program for the clinicals which must take place in a medical setting and have you in person and onsite.

Many young and even established people are interested in nursing and if you are among them there are some great options for you even if you are living far away from a campus-based nursing education institution. Did you know you can get a degree in nursing online? As a matter of fact you can. And there are many benefits compared with a traditional school as well, such as

  • no moving expenses
  • no transport expenses
  • you can use your computer or laptop from wherever you have an internet connection
  • you can study whenever it fits into your schedule

and you can also be eligible for a scholarship like ordinary, on-campus students. Especially if you are established with family or a job this is a very convenient way to study and get your nursing degree. Think of how much time and money you’ll save for the transport between your home and the school.

What You Can Expect In The Future Labor Market With an Online Degree in Nursing

A degree in nursing online can provide an person with a way to change careers. Someone with a B.S. in another field can get a nursing degree online and then obtain a nursing position at a Master’s entry level. This could guarantee the starting point of a career that was not only more rewarding but also better-paying. Your additional education would hand you a sure pay raise compared to what you had made at your previous job.

A degree in nursing online can also place someone on the path toward a career in the research field. Thirty years ago, nursing students were learning the fundamentals of medical research while in nursing schools at large medical centers. Their nearness to the research labs allowed them better access to the information about research skills of value to nurses.

Now nursing students anywhere can learn those same medical research skills. Courses that focus on this kind of research can be taken by those who pursue a degree in nursing online. In that way any nursing student can ready herself or himself for a career in the medical research business.

Students who have an interest in the heath care industry can receive real benefits from pursuit of a degree in nursing online. Such a degree puts the student a step closer to an administrative position in the industry. Such a student might one day direct operations at a big city hospital. Such a student might also choose to share his or her nursing insight with others. An online degree can be used to get a nursing school teacher career.

Another alternative in the labor market that many people overlook, is to use a degree in nursing to become a consultant. This is not what we normally seem to belong to a nurse’s domain, but let’s say that an architect has been hired to design a hospital or a clinic. The architect would probably need to consult a nurse who has the first hand knowledge of how facilities like this should be designed. Another example of how a nurse’s knowledge can be utilized is designing clinical programs. So as you can see, a nurse’s tasks have changed during the last decades; today a nurse can do a lot more than just caring for patients.

Have you recently graduated from high school and are not sure what your next step should be for education? Are you someone working in a career that has become uninspiring, and you are looking to make a change? With online college and university courses, you can go to school at your convenience and work at your own pace to learn a new career. If you enjoy working with people, you might want to consider taking classes to become a licensed practical nurse. Online nursing degrees are offered by a wide variety of colleges and universities, and receiving LPN education could be your plan for an exciting new health care career.

Unlike other careers, becoming an LPN does not require a lengthy college tenure. Instead, LPN degrees typically can be completed in a short 12 to 24 months.

When you are studying to become an LPN, you will participate in a variety of health-related courses that focus on basic nursing care. These can include classes in medications, physiology and anatomy, as well as practical patient care. Gross anatomy studies the structures of the body that you can see. Physiology covers how the body organs, such as the heart, and systems, such as the endocrine and nervous systems, function. Medications covers the medicines that are given to patients to help treat or prevent diseases, or that are given to a patient to aid in diagnosis of a medical condition. Patient care can refer to services that you provide that promote a patient’s health, to prevent or cure an illness or to alleviate the symptoms of a health issue.

After your course work is complete, the next step in becoming an LPN is to take the NCLEX-PN exam. This is a licensing exam with the full name of National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses, and it enables you to work in facilities that hire LPNs. LPNs also must maintain their licensure by renewing their license on a regular basis.

Because LPNs are required to work under the supervision of a doctor or a Registered Nurse, they often work in clinics which provide the correct setting. LPNs enjoy patient interaction, and can perform blood pressure and temperature measurements. They can also maintain patient records, administer medication, assist with CPR, first aid, certain surgery, and patient care planning.

The advantage to participating in online nursing degrees is that you can work on much of the coursework from the comfort of your home, on your schedule, or even while you continue to work in another profession. Online courses are fully accredited through colleges and universities and also offer the support of faculty experts in the field of nurses’ training. Once you have become an LPN, if you wish to further your education,

online nursing degrees can provide the convenience and opportunity you need to go further in your nursing career.

Qualified nurses are attracted to working in Dubai and the other Emirates by the tax free salaries on offer.  In addition, a lot of employers offer their nurses subsidised or free accommodation.  This is particularly valuable as renting in Dubai is extremely expensive.

In addition to good salaries, you can expect your package to include medical insurance, paid holidays and in some instances annual paid flights home.    As with jobs in your native country, your salary will be affected by your qualifications, experience and the level of responsibility attached to your new role.

The hours involved in nursing may be longer than you are used to working.  Also the climate in Dubai can make work different, at least until you get used to the heat and the sand.  Most nursing positions, paying the salary you would expect from Dubai, will want a minimum of three years post qualification work experience, some will insist on four years.

To work as a nurse in the Emirates, you must apply to the Ministry of Health in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai.  Once accepted, you can work in any Emirate.  As with everything related to paperwork, the application process is lengthy and bureaucratic.  You will need to register with the Federal Nursing Department and may have to attend an examination at the Ministry of Health.   Nursing graduates from certain countries, such as the USA and the UK, are exempted from this examination.  The criteria for applications are currently under revision and subject to change.

All documents must be translated into Arabic and both sets submitted with your application. You will need to provide the following:

  1. Certificated copies of your passport and residency visa if applicable
  2. A completed application form and three passport size photographs.
  3. A copy of your English CV
  4. A certificated copy of all of your relevant qualifications and exams including your school leaving exams example your A or O Levels.
  5. A copy of your current nursing licence
  6. A certificated copy of your work experience which must be signed by a senior colleague.  This work experience document should show start dates, leaving dates and nature and role of positions held whilst employed.

Assuming you pass the interview and your paperwork is in order, you will be eligible to work in any Emirate.  Nurses in the UAE are required to continue their learning.  Passing additional exams and learning new skills will help you rise up the career ladder.

There are numerous nursing forums online where nurses will share the good, the bad and the downright ugly about working in the Emirates.  It is worth taking time to do your research as most jobs will expect you to sign a year’s contract.   Flexi-time and short term contracts have yet to make an impact on the employment scene in Dubai.
